You have the right to know your ChexSystems consumer score.

ChexSystems scores are numerical summaries is primarily used to predict your future banking behavior and the prospect that you will mismanage your account. There are two ways to request your ChexSystems consumer score:

  1. Complete and Print the Score Order Form from ChexSystems website at www.chexsystems.com. Once completed send the Score Order Form to Chex Systems, Inc. Attn: Consumer Relations, 7805 Hudson Road, Suite 100, Woodbury, MN, 55125 or fax it to 602-659-2197.
  2. Call ChexSystems phone number at: 1-800-513-7125 to request that ChexSystems send the form to you.

You have the right to dispute inaccurate information.

Any errors or inaccurate information in ChexSystems should be disputed. Under the FCRA, ChexSystems then has 30 days to investigate the dispute. If it fails to investigate and respond, then the item must be deleted.

ChexSystems must delete or correct inaccurate or unverifiable information. Information that is verified as accurate can remain in your ChexSystems file. Check out how to dispute ChexSystems for tips on the procedure.

You also have the right to file a dispute directly with the bank or credit union that provided the information to ChexSystems. You should be able to find this information on your report. The bank or credit union is under the same 30 day investigation rules provided by the FCRA.

Outdated information must be deleted.

ChexSystems can report information up to 7 years; however, they typically remove information after 5 years.

Bankruptcy discharge can get you removed from ChexSystems.

Any bank accounts reporting a balance that were discharged in bankruptcy should be reported as “$0.00 balance, discharged in bankruptcy.” If ChexSystems has not updated your file, send ChexSystems a copy of your discharge notice you received from bankruptcy court and a copy of your ChexSystems report identifying the accounts that were included in bankruptcy. In most cases ChexSystems will simply delete the account.

You may submit a complaint about ChexSystems

Get help if the ChexSystems investigation does not resolve the dispute to your satisfaction. The best place to report a complaint about ChexSystems is with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) at: www.consumerfinance.gov/complaints. The CFPB will forward your issue to the company, give you a tracking number, and keep you updated on the status of your complaint.

Identity theft victims have additional rights.

The Federal Trade Commission has special resources that make it easier for identity theft victims to report and recover from identity theft. Follow the instructions on Identitytheft.gov to start the process. Here are more steps to take if identity theft has impacted your bank accounts:

  • Place a security alert on your ChexSystems consumer file.
  • Contact all financial institutions where you have accounts that an identity thief has taken over or that were created in your name but without your knowledge.
  • Cancel those accounts, place stop-payment orders on any outstanding checks that may not have cleared, and change your Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card, account and personal identification number.
  • File a police report and get a copy of the report to be used if need to show proof of the crime.
  • Contact the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to file a complaint.
