  1. Hello,
Would you happen to know how long an account that was purged for fraud would last through EWS? Also does it extend every time I try to open a bank account and get denied or does it go based off of the negative inquiry in the report? My incident happened in 5/21/12.
    Thank You

    1. When a bank reports an account to Early Warning Services (EWS), the record can remain up to 7 years. The amount of time the record remains in EWS is determined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. You are entitled to a free report once a year. Get information on how to order your EWS.

There are no actions that will extend the 7-year reporting time period of the EWS record. You can safely apply for a new account without extending the reporting time period of 7 years, even if you get denied. With EWS it may be best to apply at a bank that does not use EWS to verify accounts.
